You will find seven official campsites in Tarifa, on the Costa de la Luz of Spain. All of them are outside of town on the National route N340 direction Cádiz. All campgrounds have direct access to the beach, or are near nearby. It is NOT possible to book camping places in advance. Make sure in high season to arrive early in the day and not Friday night at 9pm!
Beach Camping
In Tarifa, beach camping is officially prohibited, however, if you park your caravan along the different beach access routes, it shouldn't be a problem.
You can expect routine checks from the Guardia Civil during April-June and Sept-Oct. The camp sites are closed in winter, and fully booked during high season (July/August).
Transport to the camp sites
During summer there is a shuttle bus that runs regularly from Tarifa to the camp sites and back. With the exception of July and August, it is preferable to have your own car because hitch-hiking is not very popular. If you don't have a car, you can rent a car from 100 euros per week. A bus ticket would cost you around ¤1 per journey, therefore hiring a car amongst at least 3 persons would probably be cheaper (even during high season). There are usually no buses nor taxis at night.
Prices
The campground prices are approx. 4 euros per person and 5 euros per car. As a general rule: the further from Tarifa the camp site is, the cheaper it will be.
